The module is an introduction to the factors that affect the thermal performance of buildings. Its aim is to facilitate students to create acceptable designs which are sustainable (minimizing the use of mechanical cooling systems) and comfortable. In this project we were required to formed a group of 6 people. The building that we need to analyse the sun shading device and the wind ventilation of Esplanade where located in Singapore and after that we need to make 2 A3 board sized of board to show what we analyse it. 

 

So in this project we need identify the environmental conditions relateed to site condition, the surrounding of the building, climate. After that analyse and explain the sun path how it affect the building shading, the thermal performamce of the building, wind direction. Then explain the air movement, what wind effect use at this building, the affect of insulation of Esplanade. 

 

Eaplanade is know as one of the green building. The location and the the shading device are conduce to reduce the heat and thermal of building where it is located beside the river which is most of the wind come from to create a cross ventilation and have a stack effect to Esplanade. Also the insulation of the shading device they use aluminium to have a high reflectivity and low e-glass to prolong the heat transfer. Esplanade are having an unique shading device which is well know as (durian). It is because the angle of the shading device were place it according the sun path. For the ventilation, we were choose the open area that beside the river. It is because we feel the ventilation were strong and it is an round opening area. However to that area are quiet difficult to find the information of it so we just can analyse ourself during the site and from the picture that we took form there to prove it how it work and what ventilation effect that building have. This project we can done it in hand draw and also in computer. We have use the revit program to do the sun path diagram to show how the sun path affect the building and also the wind flow of Esplanade. 

 

This moduel make me learnt a lot of thing not only the program also the way of analyse a building. Furthermore, I have use some information that learnt at this moduel such as the ventilation, shading device and also the material of insulation apply at my studio final design. Not only to studio final design, I think that the thing I learnt can be used in any building and any design in future.
